I was thinking about the era of home delivery competition and the future of the “food situation” in Japanese society!

Is it a coincidence? Since SUCHITOO ordered home delivery (CO-OP, posted on August 20th) in August, I have seen advertisements about discounts (discounts) in newspapers (flyers), on TV, and in Yahoo ads. CO-OP (Coop Mirai) delivery vehicles can be seen in residential areas, but I have never been interested in them until now.

One day, I compared two companies that were included in the Asahi Shimbun insert at the same time. I added other companies as much as I could and commented on them in comparison with Coop and Watami.

  • Coop is cheaper with the similar Mainai bento at 570 yen [680 yen], Mainai side dish at 620 yen [690 yen], and Mainai gozen at 740 yen [790 yen]. However, I have not eaten Watami’s bento when comparing the contents.
  • Watami is running a half-price campaign in early September, and Setagaya Natural Foods is also having a half-price sale on 15 meals during September (660 yen per meal), which seems to be a response to Coop.
  • All three companies are making full use of 0120-free phone calls to advertise.
    *In [ ] are Watami’s prices.

・Watami uses disposable plastic plates for its containers, while Coop’s boxes (pictured) are impressive, with each meal packed in cellophane to emphasize safety and hygiene.
・Coop uses double covers and a box with ice packs for deliveries when the recipient is not at home, while Watami seems to lend out boxes with locks.

*I’m worried about the future of food in Japanese society!

・The taste of home-cooked meals (handmade) and cooking (i.e. the joy of making and eating) will be lost. It will become the same as school lunches and eating out.
・We will see an increase in “eating alone” without sitting around a table.
・There will be changes in plates, chopsticks, and seasonings. The concern is that more unnecessary and discarded items will be used; home delivery meals come with containers.
・While Japan has a self-sufficiency rate of 39%, and while the menu is well-balanced, it raises questions about the poverty rates of children and the rest of the world.
・In 1993, when Japan had a poor harvest (rice shortage), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries purchased rice cheaply from Thailand sold it at a high price, and used the profit from this to subsidize Japanese farmers. In 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries took a negative stance on releasing stockpiled rice. ~See the “Thai Culture Handbook” published in 1995.

*What are the benefits?

-If the tableware used for delivery is collected, there will be no waste of resources.

-The bento work area will start early in the morning, and home delivery will be mainly for dinner, so there will be a separation in residential and urban environments. SUCHITOO is for the next day’s lunch.

-Convenience store bento contains preservatives! I’ve heard people say that supermarket bento is cheaper than convenience store chain Seven-Eleven (AEON). However, some stores have a corner for eating.

-There are good points to cooking your food and combining it with other items, but on the oher side, it seems possible to order additional “raw vegetables,” but it will be hard to preserve and maintain the flavor.

@I want to try more bento and compare them. Of course, I would like to compare and study the advantages of eating out (dining halls, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.) and home delivery (bento). There are more than 10 companies introduced on the web, including home delivery food companies for the elderly.
That’s all about the situation with home-delivered meals in Japan, but in Thailand, there are plenty of food stalls (for take-out, including Saitoon) and food delivery bikes on a par with those in the US (McDonald’s and others with contracts with Uber), and it’s a convenient country where meals are cheap. However, there are different conditions, such as not having time to cook at home and the climate being hot all year round (even the kitchen is hot!), so what do you think?

@@Aside: Mr. H stopped bringing food to the front door from the back gate. There seems to have been a “spider” in the garden! He said was a problem with returning to the (food distribution center) on his infected clothes. The nuance of what Mr. H says may be from an awareness of ! Is it wonderful or excessive? From a safety perspective, it’s good that there is no longer an entry from the back gate.

A trip to America: 23 hours outbound, 33 hours back. A summary of my impressions

On the way there, the domestic flight was delayed by 3.5 hours at the transit airport of Chicago, which took about twice as long. On the way back, the transit was 51 minutes in Houston, so the connection notice was shorter than that and made me anxious (when I booked a few months ago).

A side note: The flight time to Thailand in February was about 7 hours, so the connection and other things only added 5 to 7 hours – but the connection between BKK and CEI (due to the reduction in the number of flights) was bad.

In a word, I felt that my trip to America is a vast country, a country rich in resources, a country with an immigrant culture, a developed IT industry, a country with an individualistic society, a country that emphasis on the military, and a society that values children and family.

From here on, I will add some harsh opinions. It is a society with rough taste, a consumer culture, and a lot of waste, and a society where it is difficult to live without a car, and as a result, “money is important and the gap is increasing.” Values are often quite different from those in Japan. And using an airplane is the same as using a bus. There are major and regional airlines, but they are operated rationally and efficiently (I went to the Civil Aviation Bureau to interview them a few years after the liberalization of air competition in 1978, and it seems that they have been stable after a turbulent period. (Impressions of the three airports). There are a lot of hubs and spokes, and I was surprised that I could connect domestic and international flights in just 5 minutes at the UA terminal at IAD.

*Due to concerns about a hurricane on the day of my return, I was notified the day before (Sunday) that my return flight would be changed to a UA flight from ANA. All my reservations were originally for ANA flights, but they were changed to United Airlines (UA)! In terms of the flight back to Japan, the change was only a few hours, but my reserved seat was also changed without my permission! As someone who frequently goes to the toilet, this is inconvenient. It’s great! I paid 300,930 yen for a round trip based on those conditions, so I sent my complaint and opinion. It would be the worst if they thought it was “customer harassment”! I already paid 2,500 yen for an aisle seat when I purchased it with ANA… I can’t accept that I ended up paying 160 dollars (25,827 yen) at Raleigh Durham Airport (RDU) in North Carolina! UA is the largest airline in the world, and ANA is the second largest airline among Star Alliance members, but this is my opinion and complaint after trying to see how much of their systems, commonality, and service there are. ANA responded… “We follow the rules of our partner airlines, so we cannot refund you. We will refund the 2,500 yen seat reservation fee for ANA flights, so please contact the relevant department,” which was an arrogant response… I will post “Problems with ANA’s current service” [I sent a six-item questionnaire on July 15th – I received a second response on the 17th, so I will post the details on July 20th].

Even on my trip to Thailand in February 2024, I stumbled with ANA → TG (unilateral reduction in flights), and there was a case where the daytime flight I booked was changed to a night flight. ANA, the company I booked with, ran away, saying it was a matter of another company. They were adamant that I could cancel for free if I didn’t like it. They didn’t even say a word of greeting (they notified me of the flight change without my permission), and they are a company that does not explain things before or after the fact. This time, I was on my way back from a business trip to the United States, so I was unable to communicate with the local ANA office at all. I also had circumstances where I was not able to use my smartphone properly.

**I was able to spend a lot of fun time with my family for the first time in a year, but we didn’t have a car and were completely unable to do anything on our own, so we could only take an early morning walk. I was surprised that my grandchildren were only playing games in the car or in the living room. It is a culture to have BBQs and eat out on weekends, but the prices are quite high and the portions are large, so it was easy to find a good restaurant, but difficult. The ramen restaurant “Mitsukaku” had a unique and strong flavor, and it seems to be aimed at Americans. According to the Japanese owner of Mitsukaku, this is the only good restaurant in N/C and they are planning to open a second store.

***I want to write a comment on American Japanese culture, etc. [Summary of July 4th-2]. When comparing Japan and the US, the difference is the land area (about 25 times that of Japan) and the population (about 340 million, three times that of Japan), and the basic capital is young and energetic people. As America’s Independence Day (July 4th) came around, I once again thought about the short history of the USA. It is amazing how the country has developed into a melting pot of various races in a country that lasted only 248 years (1776). In other words, it is a society full of possibilities and comfort, while Japan is a closed society and has a strong feeling of laziness! However, the education level is high, and there is a culture of attentive consideration in the narrow Japanese society. I was surprised by the challenging spirit of a man who came from Puerto Rico and has been living in America for ten years. His hard work and hard work were dazzling. On the other hand, there was a young man who only pursued his dream, that was money.

****: In addition to (*1). I felt unwell during the 14-hour flight from IAD to HND in air conditioning. I had poor circulation due to economy class syndrome, and cramps developed a few hours after returning home. The intense pain was like a stick from my hip joint to my feet, and I couldn’t walk at all. Even after it subsided, I had muscle pain, so the next day I went to a nearby massage parlor to get a massage and also warmed my legs and hips in the bath. I don’t know when I will be completely cured.
Preventive guidance from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare website:

  1. Do light exercises and stretching exercises occasionally.
  2. Drink plenty of water frequently.
  3. Limit alcohol consumption. Quit smoking if possible.
  4. Wear loose clothing and don’t wear a tight belt.
  5. Raise and lower your heels and massage your calves.
  6. Raise your legs when you sleep.

Myanmar’s Japanese teacher Aung and his current situation

I want to introduce Aung again*, who runs a Japanese language school in Rangoon, whom I met through an introduction from Kazuo Inoue, a Japanese buckwheat farmer who passed away in Chiang Rai, Thailand.
*Please find the previous blog on this. http://marsk.wp.xdomain.jp/2024/05/

Please let me know if you are interested in this blog. I, SUCHITOO am planning to visit Myanmar for the fourth time. A tourist visa is valid for 28 days. This visit is to meet Aung.

Information from Mail and Facebook on August 3, 2024, said that fighting was occurring near Rangoon, Myanmar’s second-largest city. He is in his late 50s and does not seem to be required to serve in the military, but he seems to be looking for a place to escape to a safe area. He has never been to Japan, but his Japanese language skills are one in 100. His expressive face and cheerful personality are better than those of Japanese people. And he is a caring person.

I have introduced Myanmar on this blog 14 times so far, but recent articles related to Aung are on April 6, 2024, February 4, 2021 (after the coup), and March 6, 2018. In particular, in February 2020, he guided a group of 10 LSC members from Saitama Prefecture to Tachilake.

@The current situation was reported in the morning edition of the Asahi Shimbun on August 5, 2024. I hope that peace and stability will come soon.
@Although Myanmar is a country of concern because it is “not peaceful” and “not a democratic country” among the 10 ASEAN countries, the people of Myanmar are gentle, hardworking, and wonderful people who believe in Buddhism. There is also a connection with Japan due to the redemption during the Pacific War, but it is gradually weakening. In addition, a Japanese person from Aeon’s local subsidiary was arrested and released. SUCHITOO is against “merchants of death.” It seems that they are not doing business for the Myanmar people.

Deciphering the delicious food I had in Thailand

After wondering how to introduce them, I decided to classify them into three categories, give them ratings, and list the recommendations. And only three pictures. I have introduced many more on Facebook.

Part 1: Menu at a pretty good restaurant for eating out
Most of the luxurious restaurants are run by the Chinese.
The three dishes from the authentic Doi Mae Salong restaurant were because they used locally harvested vegetables and meat. That is because this place is where mushrooms, chickens, and Chinese vegetable production. It also does not seem to be run by Chinese people, and there is no Chinese on the menu. EAK, who guided me, also said that the Chinese restaurant that Thai people like.

Part 2: Suchitoo’s favorite menu
Thailand seems to have a wider variety of noodles than Japan. There are Chinese noodles, but it is a country of rice (glutinous rice is good), so it is easy to choose. Some high-end soba restaurants in Japan allow customers to choose according to their preferences, and I found there are few menu options, perhaps because they place importance on efficiency. Suchitoo’s favorite is thick noodles with thick sauce (kishimen). You can order thin noodles if you like, but thick noodles are the best. They are called runners. His next favorite is pak see you (soy sauce-flavored noodles with plenty of vegetables) and pak thai (thick Thai-style fried noodles), which are also great.

Part 3: Lenna Shokudo (the guesthouse owner’s restaurant) and menu purchased at the market. I have already introduced some of them in the past. I also introduced them in the guesthouse section.
The photos show fried bread for breakfast, rice dumplings, and the highest quality Thai whiskey (the bottle is facing backward in the picture. It was a gift), mangoes, etc. were purchased at the market in the morning. Everyone seems to have a habit of buying them to go by a motorcycle or a bicycle, every day.

These are divided into three parts, and the BEST from each. I have uploaded about five photos for each part to Facebook, but I have not written any names or comments, and I try not to show people as much as possible. EAK loves beef, but it is still food for the wealthy, so I have not uploaded all the photos here.
When you go to Thailand, feel free to go out, choose from the hotel restaurant or food stalls, and choose what you want to eat. Just like in Japan, the menus have photos and pictures, and there is also an explanation of the mustard. Many restaurants also provide not only forks but also chopsticks and condiments.

I hope you can visit Thailand, the land of enticing dishes!

Online lessons at “Hotaru” Japanese language school in Myanmar

“Hotaru” Japanese language school in Myanmar

I give online lessons to students at a Japanese language school in Mandalay, Myanmar, at any chance. Three years ago, the day of the coup was during classes. There were several interruptions due to the lack of internet. Things have calmed down, but the number of students seems to have decreased (6 in the 4th grade class and 12 in the 5th grade class as of April 2024).

I have some doubts about the following.
Most students are around the age of graduating from high school, but some have been studying for quite a long time. Some students come to school from far away. Although the school has no dormitory, they take care of housing. However, due to a lack of funds, it seems to be run by volunteers under Mr. Aung. More than that, although the number of students who work, is not publicized, there are many of them. We are affiliated with a Japanese language school in Yangon too. There is also a graduate of this school who studied in Japan as an international student and started an IT company.

In Japan, the number of industries expecting foreign workers is increasing due to labor shortages. The technical intern training program is revised almost every year. There are many problems, so it has to be revised. The most important thing for the workers is money (wage), and the reality is exploitation rather than training for technology transfer. There are also restrictions on the treatment of accompanying spouses, such as working for more than five years ( or depending on the residence status). Also, from communication issues in Japanese to various insurance enrollment, they are incorporated into Japan’s welfare and social systems.

The number of skilled workers from Myanmar will increase from now on. Surprisingly, I feel that their English level is not high. The people are strong against the cold and are simple and gentle because it is a Theravada Buddhist country, but maintaining temples is also difficult. Young people know about the Imphal Operation in World War II, which is an old connection with Japan, but they are not particularly interested in it. (This is Suchitoo’s subjective impression.)

*What is the Foreign Technical Intern Training Program? [The Foreign Technical Intern Training Program was established in 1993 to contribute to “human development” that will lead the economic development of developing regions, etc. by transferring skills, techniques, and knowledge cultivated in our country to those regions. In November 2017, the Act on Proper Practice of Technical Intern Training for Foreign Nationals and Protection of Technical Intern Trainees (Technical Intern Training Act) came into force, and a new technical intern training system was launched. 】(From JITCO)■Outline of the new system based on the Technical Intern Training Act.

@Myanmar Japanese School “Hotaru” is looking for volunteer Japanese language teachers (the school will cover the costs of accommodations).
@To date, 12 Myanmar-related articles are on this site.

Questions about handling lost mail from Japan – US Post Office

In September 2023, I sent a luggage by sea mail, and in November, a creditcard by registered AIRMAIL. I heard it would be late for Christmas holidays, Easter, etc. Anticipating this, I sent it in September, but it took two months and five days to arrive by sea, but AIRMAIL reported it as “lost.” Since the post office that shipped it is the same, I requested an investigation. The investigation was possible because AIRMAIL was registered mail, and sea mail I filled in, because the documents were getting complicated. Then, it took a little over a month, so when we investigated about the second month, An answer from the post office was “still on the ship.” The shipping time between Japan and the United States is about one week to 10 days, and even with the pre- and post-processing, the local authorities told us that it was “strange!,” and when we started making noise, the ship arrived in about ten days.

The international mail office may sent my registered mail to the US Post office for investigation its delivery issue.
I recieved a message just told us to investigate it and return in writing, but it never arrived. “Can you tell it’s stolen?” Since the contents are bank cards with credit cards, can you tell by touching them? I decided to immediately to cancel (stop) the use of the card and have it reissued.
In Japan, withdrawal, transfer of bank deposit, and savings will restrict to certin amount due to rampant fraud. Fraudulent Group doesn’t just use words, but he uses various methods to get his information. Will this card be misused as well? These days, even stolen passports are bought and sold with their photos changed.

@I received a call from the International Post Office saying that the reply I sent to the Japanese post office requesting an investigation was in writing. And I received the document (January nineth).
However I was informed that the registered letter delivered to my destination in the United States on the 13th and had been received (two months and seven days later).“I wonder why it is?” There is receipt sign on it, so even if the seal was brokened, amateurs don`t understand!
However, I do not know if they knew it was a bank card with a credit card and kept it separately, planning to misuse it later time. Is the result of the investigation just an apology for the loss and compensation? I am waiting to hear from you.
It was a disgusting time to speculate that the local postal authorities in the United States probably delivered it because it would cause it makes complaint!
Lesson: Please do not give in and raise your voice!

What will change after the training session for Dementia Volunteers “Team Orange”?

The National Dementia Basic Act has enacted in June 2023.
Next, each local government will do initiatives under its budget and guidance. I attended the training session. It has leveled up from the beginner level, and this is the third level-up seminar. It is still all classroom lectures and group meetings. The rest was a tag match between the Regional Comprehensive Center, a subordinate the government, and the general public recruited through the city newsletter (an information magazine for citizens). It seems to be there to learn about the voices, and actual situations of interested participants.

Below is a critical comment from Suchito, but it is Japan’s political form, social structure, and local government.
I will think about this as I introduce it.

At the invitation of Mr. E, a social worker and a staff member of a local comprehensive support center (community comprehensive support center), whom I met at a seminar, after I attended the workshop to improve my skills.
The third training session was about “Team Orange” and “case studies.” Why did you go out? Currently, I am not volunteering at a nursing home. Well, it’s for myself.
What will change after the training session for Dementia Volunteers “Team Orange”?

Then, I went to a local volunteer group(Team Orange). 19 people(including two infants) gathered to exchange information, and the Mayor of Minami Ward, Saitama City, brought a certificate of “Team Orange Certification No. 1” to be handed out. In other words, it was a group not only for dementia issues but also for people raising children, etc. There were elderly and their caretakers, but they were good people, and I felt a sense of comfort in their lives and humanity. It is a community-based association that provides love, kindness, and mutual assistance. However, the only men were Mr. S and Suchitoo, whom I met at the seminar. The atmosphere was conversation and behavior typical of women(sweets and tea). As long as Suchitoo does not get dementia, we’ll keep an eye on it and continue associate at the team.

I don’t know yet whether this will be a government welfare measure to combat dementia or a volunteer group specializing in dementia, but I will do what I can together with Mr. S.

The photo shows the certificate from the Minami Ward Mayor and the “Crystal performances” by the volunteer members. It will meet every month, and the next meeting seems to include a presentation from the local medical association.

Appealing future inbound(travel to Japan) measures

It has said that “viewing light (landscapes, culture, and art)” * has changed over time from “leisure = Free time” to “restoration of humanity.” Even if the ideas and patterns associated with travel change, we want to continue the spirit of hospitality forever. I am a self-proclaimed “Asian culture traveler.” As much as possible, I walk alone and interact with the locals. We don’t ride in comfortable motor coaches or stay in big hotels. Travel is not for tourism operators. It’s for myself. Tourism pollution results the wrong actions of tourists and businesses who prioritize profit. Of course, since it is a business, there must be a fusion of economy and culture. Tourism in the future will require information and facilities that allow individuals to interact rather than in groups.

*About tourism

This article submitted for the Asahi Shimbun’s theme recruitment.
I will provide additional explanations and comments.

  1. The number of foreign tourists has increased since Prime Minister Koizumi’s time, and in the recent years, it has reached 30 million. You should stop and think about it.
  2. That is why the mass media follows actual figures on the lonely hearts of Japanese people, who believe that doing so will the economy developed, are backfiring. On the other hand, bankruptcies and incidents in the tourism industry are also occurring. Cases of unreasonable prices and rip-offs are pathetic.
  3. Women traveling alone is a problem all over the world. In Japan, a French woman remains missing while sightseeing in Nikko. Report of incidents at tourist destinations will not filed, perhaps because they are trying to suppress them as much as possible.
  4. According to VISIT Japan’s policy, the number of foreign visitors to Japan in 2003 was 5.21 million, but in 2019, it increased six times to 31.88 million, and the results distorted.

5. The definition and scope of the tourism industry is wide-ranging, including transportation, accommodation,
souvenir, food and beverage, entertainment and tourist facilities, are common for no users throughout the year.
There are also saturation of the market, which means the venue is full, sold out, and crowded. In addition, incidents
that result in dumping of garbage due to poor etiquette and the destruction of the lives of local residents are a wide
range of issues and problems that go beyond the term tourism'' and includepollution, damage, criminal trouble, etc.”
All the comments made by considered tourism experts (practitioners), are proponents of tourism.

6. The BLOG article “A word to the tourism society” (December 1, 2009), in which Suchitoo posted about the tourism
society that he was a member of for a while, is old but is often read. It was a meeting of industry-friendly researchers
and representatives of stakeholders. Currently, the purpose of tourism courses at universities and vocational schools
is to obtain travel business qualifications, and the only thing left to do is to acquire preliminary knowledge before
starting a job at a company, but I wonder how meaningful they are! There is No special knowledge required before
employment. It is a school that follows cost reduction measures for small and medium-sized travel companies.

7.What does the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s Tourism Agency do? I understand that they
collect statistics, but I have a question about their reliability. How is the number of users of mass transit calculated?
Is there a distinction between general customers and tourists? And measures based on those numbers (the analysis
results are even more questionable) are a matter of disbelief. I believe that “Japan currently does not have an
appropriate and easy-to-understand tourism theory that no one can interfere with.”

@There is an article with the same purpose posted on September 14th., 2023.

Travelog for my onboard Japan’s No. 1 luxury cruise ship “Asuka II”

In February 2020, many people died on board the Diamond Princess due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In September of the previous year, I boarded the ship for three nights and four days, and it was my first time in 4 years to board Japan’s famous ship, the Asuka II (owned by NYK Line).
I went on an experiential boat ride for three days and two nights. I booked the “Level K Court” cabin (the cheapest room) from Yokohama to Kobe.
A suite costs more than three times that amount.

I made the reservation from my PC, and since there is no cancellation fee until three weeks in advance, I made the reservation about two months in advance.
I received the tickets and itinerary two weeks ago.
The fare is 117,000 yen (per person) and about 40,000 yen per day, and the DP ship is about 20,000 yen, it is double the price.
All meals are inclusive, but alcohol drinks are not be inclusive.

*Here are my impressions from boarding the ship. Due to the limitations of this blog, I will only have three photos. I will also post them on Facebook.

  1. The training of over 400 staff members was perfect. I exchanged business cards with two Japanese staff members.
  2. Most of the employees, including regular employees, were Filipinos.
  3. The room with a view of the lifeboat was a problem. The advertisement that “everything faces the sea” is correct, but this room felt unomfortable for me.
  4. The foods chooseing from many uique dishes were delicious, but the tea was not my favorite.
  5. The interior of the room, that bath (tub), and furniture were comfortable. However, the bed in this “K Court” was a little narrow in size.
  6. Some of the participants on board the DP had terrible manners, but I have never encountered such kind of people in Asuka.
  7. Compared to the DP issue 4 years ago, there were more female participants, and we had a chance to say hello, but I met some participants who seemed distant, probably because of the post-Covid-19 situation.

@ Reference 1: Among Japanese ships, Asuka II (872 passengers) and Nippon Maru (532 passengers) are very popular.
The unique feature is that the number of passengers on board is less than 1,000. On the other hand, Italian MSC, which is operating in Japan and CosTa, huge British cruise ship, is trying hard to sell to fill its seats. MSC: 5,686 people, Diamond Prince:
Those are a large luxury cruise ship that can accommodate 2,706 people. There is also the Icon of the Seas, which can accommodate approximately 8,000 people.

@ Reference 2: Mitsui O.S.K. Cruises will launch a new ship in December 2024 (a more luxurious version of the Nippon Maru with 458 passengers and 229 rooms).
Asuka III starts to service around summer 2025 (740 passengers).
*Kobe Port has the best track record for cargo transportation in Japan and has a long history, although the pier for passenger ships is smaller than expected.
The connection (berthing) to the monorail station (Port Terminal Station) after disembarking the ship was convenient and had the best access.

Let`s grab a drink!
Differences in drinking culture between Russia and Japan

I heard an amusing story about alcohol from an acquaintance who lived in Russia for over ten years. As someone who loves alcohol, this is a story about alcohol that allows people to connect with each other across borders. This person is now in his 70s and does not drink, but he is also very knowledgeable about the history of vodka and other alcoholic beverages.
During the reign of Peter the Great (17th century onwards), the top of the 100 meter tall tower, the city symbol, was destroyed, but it would take a great deal of time and effort to repair it. A carpenter bought it and repaired in a short time, and the king was so pleased that he asked if there was anything he wanted, and he wanted him to drink it anywhere in the city and got it tattooed on his throat. Unlike bills and paper certificates, it guarantee until you die. After that, it became customary for Russians to invite each other for a drink by pointing two fingers at their throats.
This invitation is similar to the appearance of drinking ochoko (small sake cup) in Japan, but pointing to the right throat is the Russian style, and holding the ochoko with the left hand and stretching it out is the Japanese style.

Mr. U, who asked for details, sent me a detailed explanation, so I will paste it as is below.
In 1830, the cross held by an angel that shone atop the spire (122.5 meters) of the Peter and Paul Cathedral, the tallest building in St. Petersburg at the time, was broken by a storm. It looked like it would fall if a strong wind blew. Tsar Nicholas I, at the time sent out an appeal asking for people to repair it, but he did not want to spend too much time and money on it, so he made it a condition that not using a scaffolding. No one came forward because they were afraid of working at such a high place, but Terushkin, a roof carpenter from the Yaroslavl region, offered to do it with just a rope and successfully repaired it. The emperor was delighted and asked if there was anything he wanted reward, to which the carpenter replied, “I’d like to have a drink at the emperor’s expense in any tavern.” After receiving his certificate, he went out drinking almost every night, but he got drunk and eventually lost his certificate. So he had it tattooed on his throat so he would never lose it. Since then, when he asked for drink money, he would flick his throat with his index finger and leave the store. After that, this gesture became a custom for Russians to invite each other for a drink.

@brewed liqure from local raw materials in the world (there are various legends, such as the earliest story of a monkey hiding fruit in the hollow of a tree and fermenting it). There is a history and drinking methods that make life enjoyable, but there are also cases where people become addicted to alcohol. In addition, some countries have established laws such as age restrictions, as it can lead to not only alcoholic, but also crime. And there is an alcohol tax purposes. There are also uses for climate (lowering fever) and medicinal elements, but just like smoking tobacco, so be careful.
For beer lovers, wine lovers, whiskey lovers, sake lovers and shochu lovers may to have a drink that suits you. But lower alcohol content comes at a higher price because too much drink. The high degree of alcohol affects your health, but alcohol can also use for cooking and dyeing.
I Suchitoo researched Okinawa’s “Awamori” culture, and love drinking. It is full of amazing stories about the relationship with China (hospitality of the Shoho envoys) and the history of the Age of Exploration. Surprisingly, many people don’t know about Thai roots (Thai rice).
